How to Use the Internet to Set a Writing Career?
The Internet is an opportunity, a career, a way to a better life, stop scrolling through it purposelessly.
Being a writer, I can understand the challenges every writer goes through to make a writing career.
In the past eras, when the internet was not a source of income, writers were very underrated because their writing was not paid enough. The Internet came into existence and with time, it’s grown in different ways.
Before the internet was only for entertainment and news, now it has become a career source. Instead scrolling through the internet purposelessly, use it to live a better life.
How to set your career as a writer on the internet.
1. Freelance Writer
You might think, I am gonna say: become a freelance writer to set your career as a writer on the internet. No, I am not gonna said this, because you all are familiar with this opportunity.
Here, I am gonna talk about how to make your place in freelancing as a writer. Everyone runs to join freelance sites as freelance writers but many of you become frustrated very soon and others are left disappointed after putting in effort for so long.
Everyone tries to build their online career because it’s reliable. So, there is a saturation in the writing field as well. So need to know how you can make your identity in this saturated writing community.
You need to know the direction to move in.
Here are some key points that you should consider if you wanna be a freelance writer:
1.1. Choose a Category
“Writer” is a wide term. There are so many categories that lie under this term. Before joining freelance sites you have to know which category best fits you.
Find out your expertise, and own it as a writer. Not all can be the writer in the same category.
Some might be good in academic writing, like writing synopses, theses, and assignments.
Some can be good in resume writing.
Some might prefer to be a ghostwriter.
Some might be good at writing fiction books some might be good at nonfiction books.
Many of you might be good at poetry writing.
So, sometimes new freelancers get confused about where they should start. They consider many other writers who told their stories. New freelancers think that if a person is earning good writing nonfiction books, they should choose to be a nonfiction writer. No — here is the mistake that you make. Find out whether you are good at nonfiction writing or not. Is it your thing or not? You might be good at fiction writing. So, knowing where you have to move to is important.
1.2. Be Specific about Niche/ Genere
Now, if you have decided and found out which category is best fits for you — still there are some points to work on.
Next to a category is niche or genre. For instance, you have chosen to be a book writer, now it’s one to know what genre you are good at. Or if you have chosen to be a content writer then what niche you are best at?
Such as:
Medical writing
Technical writing
Travel writing
Finance writing, etc
1.3. Be Clear about Service
Once you are done with your selection of category, you need to be very clear about your services from the beginning. Because it will make your impression good to the buyer. It will show your authenticity as a writer and buyers will be able to make a confined decision about your service.
It will also increase the chances of being hired earlier and stay long-lasting on the site. Because when you are clear about your service there will not be any unpleasant debate after your service delivery.
Sometimes it happens that freelancers lie and manipulate their services to be selected but after the delivery of work, the buyer is not satisfied. He/she will argue with you or you both will end up with unpleasant results.
This means the buyer will be left a bad review; thus, your chances to grow and proceed as a writer will drop. You might be failed at the beginning of your journey — this is what you definitely don’t want.
2. Create Blog
If you are a writer, whatever category you lie in — you must create your own website or blog.
If you are a story writer you can create a storytelling blog or website.
If you are a content writer, create a blog based on your niche and monetize it.
As we are talking about “setting a career as a writer on the internet,” thus, it is important to explore and avail all available opportunities. Because relying on one source is not a wise decision in this era. Being a writer you need to avail every opportunity on the internet. If you have not succeeded as a freelance writer, you can be successful at your website. So, there is a chance to boost your career opportunity as a writer.
3. Publish eBook on Amazon
You are a writer, right? Whether you have started winning projects on freelance sites or not — you should think about writing your own book. It’s another option to survive as a writer.
Think! If the first two options don’t work well for you, the third can be life-changing. Even if you are a successful freelance writer and your website is also doing well, you should publish your book.
Because freelancing also has its downside. It might go down at a certain point. So, you should have an alternative.
If you think, you will choose another two options (blogging or book publishing) when you need it, or when your freelancing will down, I am telling you it will frustrate you. Because everything required hard work and time.
What if you are in need of money, but you don’t have any option? You will not start earning immediately on a website or book publication. So, work on it before it’s too late.
Wrapping it Up
If someone wants to do writing as part-time work or on and off — It’s fine to sticker a smaller level or one thing but if you want to pursue writing as your career, you should be active and keep a keen eye on every opportunity.
Don’t think that if you are a freelance writer, you do not need to consider any other opportunity.
Freelancing has its downside, blogging has its downside, and Amazon book publishing has its downside. So, to be an active and successful writer on the internet you need to consider all and work on all things side by side. So if one side is down, you get hope for other sources.
